Is Industry an option for you?

Career paths after completing a doctorate can take many different directions, often extending far beyond academia. In our October session, we will focus on the journey into industry. Transitioning from academia to industry can be a complex and lengthy process, requiring a shift in mindset, the acquisition of new skills, and the ability to navigate unfamiliar job markets. While there are many books and articles on this topic, sometimes it’s more valuable to hear directly from those who have successfully made the leap. Personal testimonials offer unique insights into how others have found fulfilling and motivating careers outside academia.

By hearing these firsthand experiences, you may gain clearer insights into your own career steps and realize that you’re not alone in your questions or doubts. This session will provide not only practical advice but also a much-needed dose of inspiration and guidance.

Featured guests:

• Dr. Gabrielle Thomas is currently working as a group leader in marketing for Menlo Systems (Munich/ Berlin) and is an academic visitor at Imperial College (London). She is a trained physicist with a master’s degree in optics and photonics and holds a PhD in laser physics at Imperial College. She then worked as scientific project leader at ESA, Max Born Institut and in different positions for several companies before she joined Menlo Systems in 2022.
• Dr. Clara Patricia Marshall works currently as a Project Leader at Integrated Lab Solutions ILS GmbH (Berlin, Germany). Originally from Argentina, where she studied chemistry at the University of Buenos Aires, she moved to Berlin in 2015 to pursue her PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. After finishing her studies, she worked in the field of catalysis as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society before joining ILS.

We welcome any questions throughout, and we invite you to remain after the talks, as there will be an opportunity to talk and network over light refreshments.

Future talks! is a new format introduced by the Campus Club Adlershof.
