Olympic Ground
Just back from London, and soon in Berlin
When athletes, honoraries, fans and officials celebrated the German successes during the Olympics, they did so on Kassel soil, so to speak, as it was wood and flooring wholesaler W. & L. Jordan from Kassel who had furnished the German House in London’s East End. Up to 1,000 guests a day visited this meeting point of the German fan base. In spring 2013, the family-owned business will locate in Adlershof to establish its new headquarters for the Berlin region.
German Federal President Gauck and Prince Albert of Monaco were among those who paid the German Olympic team’s “living room“ a visit, walking the textile and vinyl floor coverings produced by the North Hessian brand Joka. A total of 1,400 m² had been laid by Jordan inside the historic storehouse building which today houses the Museum of London Docklands.
Founded in 1919, the once regional wood business has developed over generations into Germany’s leading provider of wooden and other floor coverings. Today, W. & L. Jordan GmbH is a forward-looking third-generation family enterprise led by Horst-Dieter Jordan and his son Jörg Ludwig Jordan. The company is one of the leading providers in the wood, floor covering and household textiles sectors with a turnover of approximately 275 million Euro in 2011.
For about 25 years, Jordan has been providing the crafts and specialised trades with a distinguishing feature from DIY stores and discounters, namely its highly accepted brand JOKA and since 2009 INKU (Austria). Next to entrepreneurial vision and a keen sense of trends, top quality products and unconditional customer orientation have been a decisive factor in the company’s success.
Northern Hesse is the supply centre for customers in Germany and Europe. Today, the North Hessian wholesale company has more than 900 employees as well as 47 branches all over Germany, six branches of its Austrian subsidiary INKU Jordan GmbH & Co. and one branch in Metz, France. Its new branch in Adlershof is a valuable addition to the existing branches in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen, Berlin-Charlottenburg and the JOKA City- Store, a showroom in the heart of Berlin on Leipziger Platz between Potsdamer Platz and the Federal Council building. Besides being housed in an attractive structure, it provides storage facilities as well as ample space for state-of-the-art office and exhibition spaces. Moreover, it will become the company’s new headquarters for the Berlin region.
