Eat your way through Adlershof
Adlershof is expanding its culinary opportunities and tending changing demands
Whether you’re looking for bagels, wraps, salads, curry and rice, or Königsberger Klopse, a German favourite: Adlershof is expanding its culinary opportunities and tending to changing demands. Food in the Science City Adlershof is healthy and light, extravagant and at the same time affordable. The journalist Jördis Götz ventured out and visited four places, which include restaurants as well as bistros and cafés. This issue of Adlershof Journal contain a flyer providing you with an overview of all the culinary opportunities on the campus. But don’t forget: the old town of Adlershof also offers many ways to satisfy both appetite and thirst. Italian, Korean, Indian, or German style – depending on what you crave.
Café Campus (in the new estate) “Living on Campus“, Groß Berliner Damm 138
The guests:
Konstanze Ludwig, physics student: “I just moved to the student village next door and I’m exploring the area. Our department supplies a culinary guide which recommends the Oase, the university cafeteria. Esswirtschaft near Forum Adlershof also have student-friendly prices, so does Bagel Company. But I like the atmosphere here at Café Campus and it’s not as crowded as the cafeteria.”
The proprietor:
Axel Fischer: “I have been working in Berlin’s gastronomy for 35 years and have also managed larger places. First I wanted to open a small place in Mitte, but the rent was unaffordable. I’m originally from Treptow, so I decided to open up shop in Adlershof and adapted my concept to the location: homemade cakes, fresh produce. I offer business lunches during the week with a focus on German food. The offer today is salad with fresh salmon. We opened on 7th September 2016. Yesterday was a good day. We had sold out by 2pm.”
Jouis Nour, organic canteen, Rudower Chaussee 14
The guests:
David Ditter from the company Jünger Audio: “I have only been in Adlershof for a few months and am actually surprised about the number of places to eat. I prefer eating salad for lunch and it tastes best here at Jouis Nour. My colleagues and I also go to Café Bistro Albert on Albert-Einstein-Straße or to Bistro La Petite on Am Studio.”
The proprietor:
Norman Schmidt: “When we opened Jouis Nour in Adlershof in 2008, there weren’t that many guests. But the more the Wista site grew, the more guests we had. What makes us special are our daily organic dishes made from fresh and regional ingredients. We also offer lactose-free, gluten-free and vegan options.”
Eat Green at the Medienfenster, Rudower Chaussee 5a
The guests:
Marcos Gutierrez Moreno, participant of an European Montessori conference in Adlershof: “I was here for breakfast and had a wonderful, healthy, extra-large whole-grain sandwich with goat cheese, which was great. Meanwhile I have convinced my colleagues to come.” Sophie Boulc’h: “A special bistro, I’ve never seen anything like it. I really had the feeling that what I was eating was good for me. Where I come from in Saarbrücken, there’s nothing like it. A real pity.”
The proprietor:
Julia Sommerfeld: “We reopened at the new Medienfester a few weeks ago. Being a Science City, Adlershof has the matching clientel to our concept: conscious eaters who wish to live healthily and sustainably, but who have little time. We offer fruit and vegetable smoothies and everything is to go. I manage the restaurant with my mother, who, like me, lives in the district of Treptow-Köpenick, and I study nutrition. We are happy about our successful start. At one point, the guests had to wait out on the street.”
Coffeebar Oase, Rudower Chaussee 25
The guests:
Hanene Sayadi and her colleagues Ghassen Ben Mabrouk, Slimane Ben Harbi, Deepak Thota, and Wassim El Hariri, software programmers at Insystems Automation (Photo): “We are one team and always go out to eat together. We either go to the university cafeteria, to Subway, or the Asia Sushi Bar across the road. We like the Coffebar to get coffee and croissants, especially for breakfast. We’d like to see a typical Arab or Turkish restaurant in Adlershof. The only one I know of is a falafel place called Livas in the Kaufland supermarket. They make a great Döner. We are particularly fond of the oriental wraps at the commons.”
The proprietor:
Daniel Viereck: “Obviously, the top sellers at Coffeebar are tea and coffee, followed by our “belegte Brötchen“, classic German open-faced rolls with various toppings, and our homemade cakes. Brownies are kind of like the national dish among the students. Our vegan cakes are another favourite.“
