What have Texas Tea and milk, ink-jet inks and ceramics in common?
Comprehensive programme at International LUM-Workshop on 17 March 2011
Texas Tea (crude oil) and milk, ink-jet inks and ceramic suspensions are heterogeneous systems of two or more substances, where one or more kinds of particles are dispersed in a liquid phase, i.e. they are dispersions. Sooner or later the phases separate from each other resulting in problems at production and transport, formulation and application.
The scientific committee, chaired by Prof. Dr. Lerche, Managing Director of LUM GmbH, has selected topics for the workshop Dispersion Analysis, being of interdisciplinary interest.
Formulaters, producers and users of inks and waxes, fibers, ceramics, minerals, cosmetics, blood, milk and crude oil are united by the need of a direct and accelerated stability analysis and the requirement of a comprehensive characterization of particle properties and interactions. Speakers from industries and research organizations discuss their experiences, strategies and problem solutions based on the use of the analytical instruments LUMiReader®, LUMiFuge® und LUMiSizer®.
The LUMiSizer® is in the front rank of thrilling new applications e.g. Augmented Reality, as to be learned from a Portuguese talk. A representative of the Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority will report on stability investigations of dairy products, belonging to more classic dispersions. The analytical evaluation of the stability of crude oil dispersions for a safe pipeline transport is presented by a leading fine chemicals producer from the Netherlands.
The use of the patented STEP-Technology® in the centrifugal field in the LUMiSizer® enables the investigation of particulate systems with respect to their consolidation behaviour and to obtain information on the filtrability of suspensions. This application is introduced by a Franco-Ukrainian team of researchers.
The entire comprehensive programme allows all participants to discuss their questions with the international experts and to set future trends in their particular fields.
