TRUMPF Laser GmbH expands its Berlin Adlershof branch
Market leader in high-performance diode lasers acquires company specialised on pilot production / Growing interest of large companies in the research and development competencies in Berlin
The Berlin Adlershof-based branch of TRUMPF Laser GmbH has been focusing on the pre-product development of diode lasers since October 2015. The company has now acquired the c2go inprocess solutions GmbH in Adlershof, which specialises on advance engineering of optical products and semiconductors. For the Trumpf Group, which has 11,000 employees and generates sales of 2.81 billion euro, this is the next step in expanding its technology and market leadership in high-performance diode lasers.
The c2go inprocess solutions GmbH, an Infineon Technologies spin-off, has been based in the Technology Park Adlershof since its founding in 2005. During its ten active years, c2go increasingly specialised on diode laser assembly and produced complex prototypes and pre-production models. Moreover, c2go advised and supported other companies on production design, for example, how to produce a pilot production line from a laser prototype for medical application or high-volume manufacturing design.
“By acquiring c2go, we are expanding the advance engineering of diode lasers in Adlershof and our capabilities in assembly as well as the manufacturing of pilot and pre-production models. This confirms Adlershof’s role as a major location for our diode laser technology,” says Dr. Stephan Strohmeier, head of diode advance engineering at Trumpf, commenting on the company purchase.
Roland Sillmann, managing director of WISTA-MANAGEMENT GMBH, the technology park’s operating company in Adlershof, views the acquisition as an important signal: “It confirms the growing interest of established companies in the concentrated competencies of our site. In the technology field photonics and optics, TRUMPF Laser GmbH is now the fourth company, including JENOPTIK Diode Lab GmbH, Corning Optical Communications GmbH & Co.KG and Bruker Nano GmbH, to take root in Adlershof. This strengthens Berlin’s significance as a location for research and development.”
