Sulfurcell Provides Modules to Berlin’s Largest Rooftop Thin-film PV System
The 1.1 MW (820 MWh/year) System is Installed on the “Am Oktogon” at Adlershof
Sulfurcell Solartechnik GmbH today announced its high-performance thin-film modules have been used to construct Berlin’s largest rooftop PV system. The newly installed system at the "Am Oktogon” building at the Adlershof business park in Berlin has a rated output of 1,010 kilowatts peak (kWp) and an annual energy yield of approximately 820 megawatt hours (MWh), enough energy to power 300 private homes.
"Sulfurcell is extremely honored to be chosen as the module supplier for this ambitious new project", explained Sulfurcell CEO Dr. Nikolaus Meyer. “Sulfurcell’s thin-film modules were specifically designed for roof-integrated applications such as this, where ease of installation, performance, and high aesthetics are paramount.”
Additional “green buildings” are being planned as part of the business park at Adlershof, including a large high-rise that will utilize Sulfurcell’s solar façade solutions. The solar façade module is a unique Sulfurcell innovation that was used for the first time in 2009 on the Sulfurcell headquarters in Adlershof.
“Having such a high profile project using our own product so close to our research headquarters provides us daily inspiration to continue to innovate even more intelligent solutions for the BIPV and solar construction industries,” explained Sulfurcell’s Chief Sales Officer, Henrik Krüpper.
Today’s announcement rounds out a year of important milestones for Sulfurcell as it continues to expand its global operations, including:
- June 2010 – Sulfurcell Enters US Market with Sales Office in CA
- July 2010 – Sulfurcell Signs 16 MW Supply Agreement in Asia
- Sept 2010 – Sulfurcell Unveils 10.7% Efficiency CIGSe Module
“We are thrilled 2010 has been such an important year for Sulfurcell both in terms of product development and commercialization,” concluded Dr. Meyer. “We envision 2011 will be even more important as we expand our production capacity and bring our innovative and high quality solar solutions to more markets throughout the world.”
