Particle characterization made by LUM opens new horizons
LUM presents innovations during PSA 2011 conference in Edinburgh
LUM GmbH, Germany, welcomes all visitors to the Particulate Systems Analysis (PSA) 2011 conference in Edinburgh, Scotland to present innovations considerably simplifying the particle characterization in industry, research and development.
With five scientific contributions to the conference programme and the parallel exhibition LUM underlines the importance of the particle characterization in addition to the company’s unique approach of direct and accelerated suspension and emulsion stability measurement, resulting in a comprehensive answer about dispersion properties when using LUM instruments.
The new LUMiReader PSA® instrument allows for the first time the determination of the volume based particle size distribution for emulsions and suspensions, without knowing the refractive index and without the assumption of spherical and homogeneous particle shape. This opens new horizons for the characterization of industrial products, where often above parameters are not available or not applicable. The LUMiReader PSA® applies LUM’s patented STEP-technology®, the measurement of space and time resolved extinction profile following a unique new multi-wavelength method.
The quality of industrial suspensions, emulsions and complex systems results from many influences. The determination of the separation velocity distribution as integral measure of changes in size and density has advantages over the particle size distribution only. Since there is no need of any material data it is a method of choice when using the new LUMiReader PSA® as well as the Dispersion Analyser LUMiSizer® for quality control in beverage, paints and ceramics industries.
For the characterization of particle density in liquids nearly all LUM instruments can be used, having no problems even with soft particles or fractals. The LUMiReader PSA as well as the Demixing Tester LUMiCheck® apply here the zero velocity approach, known also as the principle of ARCHIMEDES. The LUMiSizer applies the two velocity approach, based on STOKES’ law.
Giving hydrodynamic particle density, separation velocity distribution and particles size distribution in addition to the direct stability result, both the new LUMiReader PSA® as well as the All-in-One-Dispersion Analyser LUMiSizer® are two instruments for the comprehensive understanding of complex industrial products in an easy way.
In collaboration with Dr. Lerche KG, Germany, LUM presents isomorphic non-spherical microparticles as reference material for particle shape instruments.
LUM welcomes you during PSA 2011 in the conference lectures and at Stand 6.
