Industrial partners view Adlershof’s Energy Accelerator as Success
Following Demo Day, business founders and energy sector representatives look forward to the next round of the A² Smart Energy programme
Exposing hidden “energy wasters”, tenant engagement energy projects for white label, or co-branding, visualising grids – these are but a few of the smart energy solutions that were presented at the so-called Demo Day, the kick-off event of the A² Adlershof Accelerator Energy on 19 September 2017. Seven start-ups (Datalyze Solutions GmbH, Lumenaza GmbH, perto GmbH, prosumergy GmbH, RABOT Energy GmbH, smartB Energy Management GmbH, USE MY ENERGY GmbH) worked together intensely with five top-level companies from the energy sector (GASAG AG, Alliander AG, BTB GmbH, encevo, MVV Energie AG) to implement pilot projects, while accessing the network of the bne Association of Energy Market Innovators and taking part in coaching programmes.
The result:
It is hardly possible to create complete solutions in such a limited amount of time, but all the projects are on track. The start-ups gain access to the energy market and get a real added value from the coaching programmes. Fresh ideas from young start-ups stimulate established companies. However, implementation requires patience. This was confirmed by alumni Elena Holsten of Holsten Systems GmbH, who took part in the first A² programme a year before. Her pilot project spscontrol, which she created in cooperation with BTB, has now been underway for 1.5 years and will likely require a few more months.
WISTA Management GmbH, the operating company of the Science and Technology Park Adlershof, initiated the A² programme. The company offers between five and eight business founder teams will have the opportunity to implement their business ideas with established companies and foster their growth. The energy sector is undergoing radical changes and confronting great challenges. This is affecting start-ups as well as established companies. Above all, there is an urgent demand for new business models and novel approaches for solving future problems.
The successful second round of the A² programme underlines: “A² is more than an accelerator. The programme is also a catalyst,” says Roland Sillmann, CEO of WISTA. The programme generated much praise from the start-ups as well as the established companies, who both called for a second round.
