German Research Funding Atlas 2024: FVB institutes perform very well
Funding increased by more than 28% in 2020-2022 compared to the previous period
The institutes of the Forschungsverbund were able to increase the amount of DFG funding they acquired compared to previous years. According to the German Research Founding Atlas 2024, between 2017 and 2019, the seven institutes were granted a total of €33.2 million in funding; between 2020 and 2022, this increased to €42.5 million. Congratulations!
The Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) did particularly well, receiving 11.1 million euros. Compared to the 6.6 million euros it received between 2017 and 2019, this represents an immense increase. The Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB), the Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung (IKZ), the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (IZW) and the Paul-Drude-Institut für Festkörperelektronik (PDI) were also able to significantly increase their DFG funding. With €12.1 million, the Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP) received the most DFG funding in the FVB comparison.
The German Research Funding Atlas 2024 was presented on October 25, 2024. This edition covers the years 2020 to 2022. The Funding Atlas is published every three years and presents a wide range of key figures on publicly funded research in Germany. It analyzes the allocation of funds from the German Research Foundation (DFG), as well as federal funds and funds from the European Union (Horizon Europe).
