A vibrant place with a special identity
Interview with Jörg Overbeck, Chair of Europa-Center AG
Your company has proved its commitment in Berlin Adlershof with an office building covering 9,000 square metres. Are your investments restricted to this one building?
Absolutely not. At the end of 2008 we purchased the whole surrounding property, and at the latest by the spring of 2010 we intend to commence with additional building work and so double the area we can offer. Also our plans for a third building phase scheduled for 2011 already has the full agreement of the planning, building and historical preservation authorities and is awaiting implementation: We’ll be ready to go in case a major tenant turns up.
What is it about Adlershof that you appreciate so much?
I am totally sold on Adlershof. It is the scene of a highly interesting mix of exciting things: research, new technologies, media production and much more, carried out by equally interesting people in beautiful yet unpretentious buildings. The downright fascinating history of the location can still be felt. Adlershof is not a mere location for offices, but a vibrant place, a place to shop, to go and see a doctor and one to live, as well. It is a place with a very special identity. This is also confirmed by our prospective tenants when they come here for the first time, as well as all the Berliners that visit on many special occasions, for instance the “Long Night of Science” or “Monument Day” and experience the special charm of the location and its people.
What do you expect from Adlershof in future?
Just four years ago Adlershof was seen to be “too remote”. The location will continue to profit from its access to the motorway, the expansion of commuter traffic services and the construction of the new BBI airport. In response we have planned a long term project for both a hotel and an industrial park that is to offer modern space for the expansion of small but dynamic growth companies from the surrounding areas.
