Inspired by the vivid and brilliant structural colors found in nature—arising from light-material interactions rather than light absorption—our group aims to mimic these natural phenomena using sustainable bio-sourced materials such as polysaccharides and polypeptides. The inherent chirality of these natural molecules allows us to tailor molecular self-assembly into specific configurations, thereby altering light-material interactions to produce vibrant colors.
We are currently seeking motivated master’s students for internships (with the potential to continue into a Ph.D. program) to explore polypeptide self-assembly and its photonic properties. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative research at the intersection of materials science, physics, and photonics.
