Lesswire presents Car2X transceiver module
Wireless module improves safety and efficiency on the roads
Lesswire, a leading supplier of wireless connectivity solutions for OEMs, appliance manufacturers and system integrators, presents the first wireless module for Car2X applications. The module, called WiBear ITS, makes it easier for integrators to develop electronics for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and Roadside Units (RSU).
The WiBear ITS wireless module based on the NXP Roadlink SAF5100 chipset supports the standards IEEE802.11p and ETSI ITS G5 as well as the WLAN standard IEEE 802.11a/n. The module uses the frequencies reserved for Car2X applications in the 5.9 Ghz band and can be used in the EU and North America. With a range of over one kilometre, the WiBear ITS wireless module can transmit and receive simultaneously on 2 channels.
“The WiBear ITS Car2X transceiver module enables integrators to develop intelligent transport systems and roadside units with a lower cost and risk. We are therefore helping to distribute the technology in the early phase of the market,” says Dr. Ralph Meyfarth, CEO of lesswire AG.
Car2X Improves Safety on the Roads
Car2X applications improve safety and efficiency on the roads by providing information between vehicles (Car2Car) and between vehicles and the traffic infrastructure (Car2I). For example, the driver can therefore be warned about a fast-approaching emergency vehicle or about an accident on the road ahead, whilst traffic light sequences can be adjusted to the volume of traffic, thus preventing the build-up of traffic jams. The basic technology, available with the Car2Car communication standard, enables a wide range of conceivable applications, for which the WiBear ITS transceiver module represents the appropriate hardware basis.
Automotive Grade
The WiBear ITS fulfils the high requirements of the automotive industry. Due to its qualification and production according to automotive standards, it can be used both in the vehicle as well as in traffic infrastructure systems. The wireless module can be used in an extended temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C.
Availability
The WiBear ITS Car2X transceiver module will be presented to the public at the Embedded World trade fair, which takes place from 25 - 27 February 2014 in Nuremberg. Engineering samples will be available towards the end of the 2nd quarter of 2014.
