WiNS Workshop: Transitioning to industry after the PhD: Benefits of networking and mentoring
Wednesday, 19. March 2025 // 16.00 - 17.00
WiNS Adlershof (Women in Natural Sciences)
Virtual networking meeting with Dr. Sarah Pan (Procter & Gamble)
Career paths after the doctorate can go in many different directions – also beyond academia. This career transitioning from academia to industry can be a longer process. Navigating what can feel like an overwhelming number of branching paths is a challenge for those finishing up a PhD or postdoctoral position. You’ll find many books and articles on that issue. However, sometimes it is more effective to get personal testimonials from people who have taken this step and share their experiences in finding fulfilling and motivating careers.
In this networking session, Sarah is happy to share insights into her PhD journey and how she has expanded her network through the WINS mentoring programme and other WINS events. This support has helped her greatly in her career development and translating her skills to meet the needs of the industry. Even before her PhD defense, she successfully applied for an open position as a project manager. You will learn how you can feel comfortable networking and why it is still important to complete your PhD to land your dream job.
Dr. Sarah Pan, originally from China, is a trained chemist. She completed her PhD in inorganic fluorine chemistry at HU Berlin in October 2024. She first joined Procter & Gamble as an intern and then successfully applied for an open position as a project manager.
